چکیده

The CHI3L1 gene has been widely regarded as a genetic candidate for asthma. Since the identification of functional polymorphism, CHI3L1 gene -131C/G (rs4950928), numbers of studies have been performed to estimate the relationship between it and asthma, but the results remain inconclusive. The present meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the real association of CHI3L1 C-131G polymorphism on risk of asthma on 3,777 asthma cases and 7,844 controls from 10 published studies by searching PubMed, EMBASE and CNKI databases and reference lists of relevant articles. A random-effects or fixed-effects model was used to estimate the overall and stratification effect sizes on CHI3L1 C-131G polymorphism on the risk of asthma as appropriate. However, we failed to find any significant association between the CHI3L1 C-131G polymorphism and the risk of asthma for different genetic models (recessive model: OR=1.18, 95% CI: 0.91-1.53 and dominant model: OR=0.94, 95% CI: 0.72-1.21, respectively). In stratified analysis by ethnicity and age, we still did not detect any significant associations in different subgroup for all genetic models. Our study suggested that the CHI3L1 C-131G polymorphism alone may not contribute to asthma development of asthma risk.

Association between risk of asthma and gene polymorphisms in CHI3L1 and CHIA: a systematic meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Previous studies have indicated that chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1) gene rs4950928 polymorphism and acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase or CHIA) gene rs10494132 polymorphism are associated with the risk of asthma. However, the results are inconsistent because of small sample size and varied ethnicity and age in studies. Therefore, a systematic meta-analysis was important to clarify the e...

Association between two functional polymorphisms in the MMP-2 promoter and lung cancer incidence in Asian population: a meta-analysis study

Background: Numerous experiments have been performed to determine the relationship between the Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) -1306C/T and -735C/T polymorphisms and the prevalence and progression of lung cancer in diverse populations. However, due to the small sample size and the different results of previous studies, we decided to perform a general meta-analysis on all previous studies abo...

Association between the Functional Polymorphism of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Gene and Breast Cancer: A Meta-Analysis

The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene single-nucleotide polymorphism involved in the regulation of the protein levels has been implicated in breast cancer. However, the published studies have produced contentious and controversial results. Herein, we performed a meta-analysis (from January to October 2013); to further evaluate the association between +936 C/T polymorphism and the r...

Association of the CTLA-4 1722TC polymorphism and systemic lupus erythematosus: a systematic review and meta analysis

Background :Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) is an important negative regulator of T-cell responses. The -1722TC polymorphism of the CTLA-4 gene may be associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) risk, but related results from previous studies have been inconsistent. We carried out a meta-analysis to assess this association more precisely.   Methods : A systematic s...

Background and Aims: Asthma is a complicated chronic inflammatory disease associated with pulmonary inflammation, severe immune responses of the respiratory tract, and change or destruction in the respiratory tract structure. Several factors, especially genetic and environmental factors, contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma. Interlukin (IL)-13 is considered the most important inflammatory m...
